Note for students applying for engineering admission
This note is for those students (or parents of the students) who are applying for admission to engineering in either Mumbai University or at Autonomous Institutions like VJTI. There can be many questions and doubts in your mind about the admission process, the need for the classes etc. This is an attempt to answer the same in brief.
Many students aspire to join the branch of engineering without even trying to understand what engineering is all about. Let me first explain what it is in short. Every engineer does design, analysis, construction and maintenance of the units belonging to his chosen branch of engineering. For example, a Civil engineer does design, analysis, construction and maintenance of civil engineering structures like roads, bridges, factories and residential buildings etc. whereas a Mechanical engineer does design, analysis, construction and maintenance of mechanical machines and an Electrical engineer does design, analysis, construction and maintenance of electrical machines and so on. First one needs to study different branches and choose a branch which suits ones liking and temperament. Use of internet to gather such information is a great idea. It would not be out of place to mention here that girls can choose any branch of their choice as all branches are equally good for girls and the feeling that engineering branches like mechanical or civil are not suitable for girls is a complete misconception.
After choosing the branch of your choice one has to choose the college. The factors which must be judiciously considered for choosing the same are the grade allocated to the college, vicinity of the college to the residence, teaching quality, infrastructure of the college and the fees of the college. One should prepare the option list by considering all these factors.
Those who want to take admission to autonomous institutions like VJTI, COEP and ICT etc. must keep one thing in mind. All the autonomous institutions are qualitatively not at par and before opting for any one of them it is strongly recommended to get in touch with the students who are studying in that particular institute and take feedback from them.
In fact getting in touch with seniors and taking feedback from them is an idea which is useful right from the stage of preparation of choice list to choosing elective subject in the final year of engineering. Choosing your class for private tuitions is no exception. Even though doing your engineering studies on your own is ideal, it is impractical. If affordable, getting professional guidance is an advantage one should not let go.
Mumbai University syllabus has the subject of Computer Programming in first as well as second semester. We strongly believe that only one teacher should teach both the subjects. (Why??) and therefore offer admission jointly for both the semesters. We do not give admission to only first semester. There are many classes and teachers who offer professional guidance in the subject of Computer Programming. Everybody has different style. Choose a teacher whose teaching style suits your learning style. You may contact any of 20000 past students of Makarandsir to know about his way of teaching. Testimonials of past students of Makarandsir may prove out to be of some help in this respect. Making a wrong choice can cost you dearly in terms of money, time and career. All the Best for your journey to engineering education …..
